PRODUCTION THROWING

A course focused on practice over product.

“As a maker whose practice is focused on hand built sculptural pieces, my aim in joining the course was to develop my skills at the wheel in order to include thrown components in my work. To my surprise the course has also brought a new dimension to my thinking about ceramics and over the year, as a result have developed a much deeper appreciation and interest in what I might have previously dismissed as just bowls and mugs. I’ve loved my time at Coombe and as well as skills I have come away with new friendships and connections with an amazing group of potters”

— LAURA, participant 2025

“The last year at Coombe has been a transformation, with Lauren who is a gentle and brilliant teacher and all the wonderful potters I have met on this course. To set aside one day a week to practice something difficult with a group of amazing people in a beautiful place has been so rewarding and worth it in every way. We have all learnt so much alongside each other. ❤️”

— KATE, Participant 2025

“The production throwers course has helped me elevate my work to the next stage.  It was the nudge I needed to refine form, finally make a decent handle and some mugs I am proud of.  Repeating the same form again and again lets you input a body memory of the form that gets locked in. It’s been fun to be on this journey alongside others and Lauren has been a fantastic teacher”

— KIM, participant 2025

The production throwing course has opened up a whole new world of ceramics for me. The friendships I’ve made with my fellow potters alongside Lauren’s wonderful teaching and patience have helped my confidence in my making grow.
The facilities and space at Coombe alongside Lara’s energy and knowledge have made for an incredible year of learning. I shall miss it!
