Join artist printmaker Mary Bowen on an exciting journey into creative printmaking, responding to our sense of place in the landscape.
Course description
For those who are curious about the process of printmaking, this course will guide you through how it can be used as a vehicle for expanding your creative practice, using many techniques that can be recreated at home.
Landscape will be the starting point, as you gather ideas from the stunning vistas around Coombe and the river Dart, focusing on being present in the landscape, slowing down and tuning in. Using your studies and photographs as a launchpad, Mary will then guide you through a range of creative printing techniques, including monoprint, eco-etching and drypoint. You will have a chance to explore each technique as a group and then develop an idea within a particular specialism, supported by Mary in the print studio.
Mary is passionate about exploring the conversation between drawing and print, whilst capturing the sensation of being in nature through line and gesture, light and shadow. Her practice is not about imitating the exact appearance of a place, but is concerned with condensing and then responding to its essential nature and the feelings it evokes.
This course is a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of print and journey into a new creative language. If the weather is bad then you'll still make the most of the location by going out to make quick sketches and take photos, then bring them back to work on in the studio and print room. Everyone will be learning, so no prior printing experience of printmaking is required. Each stage will be fully explained and demonstrated and the course will be lots of fun.
